Flambee build: turn a fatal hit into food and energy

Use Flambee and Gourmet Toasty to recover energy after a kill, heal and feed eating growth without overspending before the finisher.

Demo build 23718635

The short answer

Flambee costs 2 energy and deals 8 base damage. A fatal hit creates two Gourmet Toasties; each costs 0, heals 5 and grants 1 energy before being consumed. You need the 2 energy up front and the kill before those refunds exist.

Flambee

Core · fatal-hit producer

Flambee2 energy · Combat

  • Deal 8 damage
  • On a fatal hit: Create 2 Gourmet Toasty

Its two Gourmet Toasties are conditional on a kill. An 8-damage hit on an enemy with more remaining health will not supply the food refund.

Food

Each base copy provides 5 healing and 1 energy for 0 cost, then is consumed. Two copies can restore the 2 energy spent on Flambee, after a successful kill.

Plan the turn around the up-front cost

  1. Count your energy before committing to setup attacks. Keep 2 for Flambee.
  2. Find an enemy within Flambee’s current fatal range after statuses and damage changes.
  3. Use Flambee to take the kill, then confirm two Gourmet Toasties were created.
  4. Keep an eating payoff in hand and play the food one at a time. Check healing, energy and the changed attack value.
  5. Spend the recovered energy where it removes danger. Do not force a second food loop if no legal fatal target remains.

A base-value example

With 2 energy and an unmodified enemy at 8 remaining health, an unmodified Flambee can take the kill. Eating both generated Gourmet Toasties then gives up to 10 healing and 2 energy. This describes the successful sequence; it is not an up-front cost of zero.

If Scavenger Blade receives both normal eating triggers, its base damage rises from 5 to 7. The next blade attack still costs 1 energy. If a status, card modification or trigger changes the sequence, use the actual values shown in the fight.

Diagnose the failed refund

If there is no food, first check that Flambee dealt the killing blow. If it never got played, check whether setup attacks spent the 2 energy it needed. If the enemy is still alive, the expected refund was based on an incorrect fatal threshold.

Keep a lower-cost source such as Roast until the larger source is dependable. Add Kitchen growth only when the existing food supply can feed the chosen recipient.

Roast

Backup · a cheaper finisher

Roast1 energy · Combat

  • Deal 3 damage
  • On a fatal hit: Create 1 Toasty

This slot lets you continue making food when spending 2 on Flambee is awkward. Replace it only when the rest of your deck handles those turns.

Make the energy chain visible in your run

Write the starting energy, the target’s remaining health and what you played after eating the food. That lets another player follow the chain without mistaking a conditional refund for a free attack.

Record the permanent core in the builder. Explain the generated Gourmet Toasties and added effects in the run notes, along with the final outcome.

Your cards can grow beyond their base values. Keep the current card values and ending together when you share the run.
