Kitchen upgrades: make food or grow from eating?
Choose cooking upgrades by the missing half of your food engine, and avoid adding growth before you can feed it.
Demo build 23718635The short answer
If you cannot produce food reliably, improve a dependable finisher with a food-making effect when offered. If food is already plentiful, improve the attack that will benefit from eating. Keep source and payoff separate when making the choice.

Cards explained in this guide
Bring a usable attack and a Fix action
Kitchen costs 2 exploration energy and requires a room with available Camp space. It is Fixable, so keep a Fix action available for its interaction. Before placing it, decide which card is actually carrying your combat damage.
Cooking modifications are choices for eligible cards. Follow the selection shown in the encounter: a generated food card or a limited-use payoff is not automatically an eligible recipient.
Connect food and attacks
Kitchen2 energy · Exploration
- Create a camp encounter
- Consume this card
Camp · Fixable
Use Kitchen to improve the relationship between your attacks and food. It is a facility card, not a food card you can eat during combat.
Full effects, properties & growth →Choose the missing half of the engine
| Your current deck | Useful offer to look for | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| You kill enemies but rarely have food | If fatal, create Toasty | A dependable attack can become a food source when it lands the kill. |
| You already generate and eat food | When you eat, increase damage | Choose a damage card you can keep using. The Kitchen option adds eating-based growth. |
| You need food that also contributes damage | If fatal, create Spicy Toasty | Read the generated food as well as the attack: Spicy Toasty heals and deals damage, then is consumed. |
| You are considering a Mood-dependent food option | Count your Mood cards first | The Spicy Truffle option depends on Moods in hand. It is not a free substitute for a consistent Toasty source. |

Food source already present
Roast1 energy · Combat
- Deal 3 damage
- On a fatal hit: Create 1 Toasty
Roast already makes Toasty on a fatal hit. If your problem is failing to kill, improve the attack’s ability to finish rather than simply seeking more food triggers.

Growth already present
Scavenger Blade1 energy · Combat
- Deal 5 damage
- When you eat: Increase damage by 1
Its printed eating trigger adds 1 damage. Pair it with actual food before looking for another growth card. Read the final modified trigger if Kitchen changes your chosen attack.

Limited-use area payoff
Left To Rot1 energy · Combat
- Deal 6 damage to all enemies
- When you eat: Increase damage by 1
Linger · Exhaust · Uses 4
Eating grows its damage, but it has Exhaust and 4 base Uses. Those restrictions remain part of the plan; use a repeatable attack for ordinary combat.
Full effects, properties & growth →Play the food loop in the right order
- Hold the card whose eating trigger you want to use, and check the energy for your food-producing attack.
- Bring an enemy within that attack’s current fatal range. Avoid accidentally killing it with the setup hit.
- Use the finisher and confirm that the food was created. A nonfatal attack does not satisfy an If Fatal effect.
- Eat the food while your payoff is available, then read the updated damage before targeting the next enemy.
- Repeat only while enemies, food, energy and card uses allow. A large growth number does not make a loop infinite.
Why a food build stalls
| Symptom | What to change |
|---|---|
| Growth cards but no food | Add a dependable source such as Roast, or use a relevant Kitchen offer on your existing finisher. |
| Food source does not kill | Choose a reachable target; improve damage or preserve a setup attack. |
| Food takes over your hand | Resolve the useful eating triggers and healing, then reassess the remaining actions rather than adding more sources by default. |
| Every reward becomes another payoff | Keep the strongest working recipient and look for energy, recovery or a missing source. |
| The build depends on one optional upgrade | Keep a printed source-and-payoff pair while you search. |
Show the modifications in your run
List the original card name and write the added effect in the run notes. A Hot Poker with an added eating trigger behaves differently from its base card even though both use the same card entry.
Keep ending damage values with the outcome and explain the action order. Record generated food separately in the notes when it was not part of your permanent deck.
