Camp guide · Steam Demo
Which camp upgrade should you choose?
Choose Practice Dummy, Kitchen, Grimoire or Strange Geode around the cards and resources you already have.
Demo build 23718635The short answer
Choose the facility that fixes your next combat problem. Practice Dummy improves an attack you rely on; Kitchen connects attacks to food; Strange Geode gives stored Gloom a damage outlet. A useful upgrade on a card you can play is worth more than an ambitious plan with missing pieces.

Cards explained in this guide
Match the facility to the missing job
| Your problem | First facility to consider | Reason and tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| An attack misses its kill threshold or costs too much | Practice Dummy | Choose a damage or cost improvement when offered. The recipient still needs to fit your hand and energy. |
| Plenty of attacks, but too little food or eating growth | Kitchen | Connect a reliable kill to food, or add an eating payoff when you already make food. |
| You have stored Gloom and need it to help end fights | Strange Geode | Its damage improvement uses stored Gloom. Keep a way to build that resource. |
| Your current reward needs a different modification | Grimoire | Read the offered lesson and eligible cards first. Choose it for the actual change it offers your deck, rather than its name. |
Reserve room, energy and an interaction
All four facility cards cost 2 exploration energy and have Camp: use them in a room with available space. Playing the facility consumes its card to create the encounter. That cost is separate from the energy you need for healing or other exploration actions.
Attack improvement
Practice Dummy2 energy · Exploration
- Create a camp encounter
- Consume this card
Camp · Fixable
Practice Dummy is Fixable. Keep a Fix action such as Tool available for that interaction; having an attack worth training is only half of the plan.

Cooking improvement
Kitchen2 energy · Exploration

Camp · Fixable
Kitchen is also Fixable. Before using it, decide whether you need a food source or a card that benefits from eating.

Gloom damage
Strange Geode2 energy · Exploration
- Create a camp encounter
- Create 1 Dark Crystal
- Consume this card
Camp · Revealable
Strange Geode is Revealable and creates Dark Crystal as well as the facility. Dark Crystal stores Gloom and has limited Uses; budget it as a resource.

A different modification route
Grimoire2 energy · Exploration
- Create a camp encounter
- Consume this card
Camp · Revealable
Grimoire is Revealable. Carry a Reveal action, for example Whispered Secret, and compare the actual choices with your current cards.
Full effects, properties & growth →Make the choice in this order
- Check the next fight’s immediate problem: damage, energy or recovery. If low health is the limiting factor, reserve the energy for Rest before an optional upgrade.
- Choose the card you want to improve. Look at its current cost, hit sequence and existing triggers.
- Place a facility only where there is space, then use its available interaction. Inspect the eligible cards and modifications on screen.
- Choose a modification that helps the next fights. Re-read the changed card before leaving: extra damage, an extra attack and a fatal-hit trigger solve different problems.
- Keep the supporting cards. A food trigger needs kills or food; a Gloom plan needs stored Gloom.
What if the facility never appears?
Keep playing toward a working engine. Hungry blade already grows from fatal hits, while Scavenger Blade already grows when you eat. Their printed triggers can supply a direction before you find a facility.
For food growth, start with Roast and an eating payoff. If you find Kitchen later, use the offered changes to improve that plan. Do not fill your deck with expensive payoffs while waiting for a specific facility.
Record the facility and the exact change in a shared run. Two decks with the same named cards can behave very differently after upgrades.
