Card finding guide · Steam Demo
How to get cards: rewards, digging and generated food
Look for a card through the right reward route, and distinguish a permanent find from food or tools another card creates.
Demo build 23718635The short answer
Start by checking how the card enters play. Some cards appear in combat, digging or shop rewards; others are created by a card you already own. To get Toasty, for example, look for a food-producing attack rather than waiting for Toasty as a reward.

Cards explained in this guide
Choose an acquisition route before choosing a tunnel
| What you want | Where to look | What that means for the run |
|---|---|---|
| Thirsty Mace | Dig rewards and shop opportunities | Keep a digging action available and inspect offers; do not expect a fixed guaranteed room. |
| Scavenger Blade | Digging and scavenging opportunities | Explore for the payoff while using a food source you already have. |
| Practice Dummy or Kitchen | Combat reward and shop opportunities | Compare the facility with your current deck and keep room/energy to use it. |
| Toasty | A fatal Roast hit | Find and use the producer; the food is generated during combat. |
| Gourmet Toasty | A fatal Flambee hit | The producer costs 2 energy up front and creates two food cards. |
| Toasty Kebab | A fatal Hot Poker hit | Read the Kebab’s three Uses; it is not a permanent unlimited food source. |
Carry the action that gives you the opportunity
Digging action
Shovel1 energy · Exploration
- Dig For Treasure: 1
Shovel costs 1 exploration energy and uses Dig For Treasure. Keep it for a suitable digging interaction instead of spending all exploration energy before reaching one.

Scavenging action
Scavenge0 energy · Exploration
- Scavenge: 1
Exhaust
Scavenge costs 0 and has Exhaust. Treat scavenging and digging as different opportunities; they do not promise the same named card.

A producer rather than a drop location
Roast1 energy · Combat
- Deal 3 damage
- On a fatal hit: Create 1 Toasty
Its fatal trigger creates Toasty. The Creates section on a card page helps you follow this relationship without confusing producer and product.
Full effects, properties & growth →What does rarity tell you?
Common, Uncommon and Rare reward choices are not a measure of how well a card fits your deck. A cheap food producer can be more useful than a rare payoff with nothing to trigger it.
A card can be associated with more than one reward route. Use the route and the current offer to make your choice; do not turn one reward tier into a promise that a card will appear, or assume a high tier guarantees a better build.
For a card you have not seen before, read the name, deck, actions and properties. Similar art or similar names do not establish that two cards have the same effect.
Find the card and the next useful guide
- Search the card library by its in-game name, or search an effect such as food, damage or draw.
- Open the detail page and check Combat versus Exploration. A similar effect in the other deck may not solve your current fight.
- Read the acquisition note when one is present. For generated cards, follow the producer link.
- Check the card’s energy, triggers and restrictions before planning around it.
- Use the linked guide for sequencing and supporting cards, then add the permanent core to the builder.
- If the card never appears, keep the deck working with a card that fills the same job rather than sacrificing the run to one exact name.
Why another player may have cards you have not seen
First compare the game version and the card’s actual name. This guide follows the Steam Demo; a different version or a modified copy can change what you are comparing.
Next check whether the card was generated, chosen as a reward or modified during that run. A screenshot of a Toasty Kebab does not mean the player found it as a normal starting card.
Finally compare the exploration and reward opportunities the two runs used. Record the encounter and route when you find a sought-after card, so the run is useful to the next player.
